The Importance Of Solid Public Transportation When Shopping For Your Next Home

25 July 2010 No Comment

When you purchase your new home, consider the option of living near public transportation. There are many benefits from living near public transportation.

Topping the list is convenience. By just walking a few steps, you will be able to get to a train station or a bus stop in a few minutes.

On a related note, having the train or bus nearby makes everything else accessible. With a reliable public transportation just a few steps away, everything else such as the office, malls, parks, hospitals, markets, and schools are easily accessible too.

The beauty is that if you live near convenient public transport then you will not need to own an automobile. If you already own when, then you will not want or need to use it as often thus saving you money on gas and parking amongst other things.

With lesser cars, there will also be less gas emissions, which is a good thing for the community’s respiratory health. Good public transportation will also be good for one’s general well being as there will be lesser stress from driving, long commutes, or traffic jams.

The better the public transportation network, the better the local body government is, and the better the upkeep on the network. Usually, if the area has a good network everything else will be better too.

As if to reiterate these benefits of having a home where good public transportation is nearby, a study reveals that these homes or communities have lower foreclosure rates. Conducted by the Natural Resources Defense Council, this study was done in selected cities in California, Illinois, and Florida.

One probable reason for the correlation between foreclosure rates and public transportation is that savings on transportation costs from not buying a car turns out to be that significant. Not having to spend much on transportation means that you can actually divert your resources to spending more on making your house a home.

The individual has been providing advice with respect to transportation for the last two years. Moreover, this individual loves contributing information regarding New York real estate, including Lower East Side rentals in addition to Financial District real estate.
